About us
Oct 29th, 2009 by Emily & Sas
“…it pleases us” is created by Emily and Saskia, who are sisters-in-law and friends-by-choice. Our blog celebrates the things in life that please us: cooking, baking, eating, drinking and mixing with the ones we love. We are passionate amateurs and here we share our culinary adventures with anyone out there who is interested. We both live in marvellous Melbourne – way down south in the less sunny part of Australia – and most of our restaurant reviews and assorted adventures take place in our fair city.
Emily is wheat intolerant, so much of her time in the kitchen is spent battling spelt pastry and getting creative with alternative grains. Emily loves sweet things (much to the chagrin of her husband, Mr M, who desperately wants her to make him a quiche one day) and so most of her recipes are for sweet treats. She rationalises her sweet baking habits in that due to the wheat-free factor, she can seldom find delicious cakes and pastries. Her favourite flavours include salted caramel, chocolate, raspberries, lemon, rhubarb, strawberry jam, rose water, hazelnuts, peanuts, pears, quince, cinnamon and maple syrup and on the savoury front, smokey bacon (Istra is a favourite), slow cooked beef or lamb, pork belly, wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts, fish sauce, aioli, cumin, chilli and lime. Emily also loves recipes that involve using her beautiful red Kitchen Aid mixer and has a serious macaron addiction.
Saskia is veg-aquarian (vegetarian + fish) and so most of her recipes centre around vegetables and/or fish. Her favourite flavours include lemongrass, chilli, basil, raspberries, tamarind, anchovies, kalamata olives, mandarins, lemons, hazelnuts, coconut, rhubarb, wild mushrooms, sea urchins, wild roquette, garlic, snapper, tuna, kingfish, sardines, ginger, horseradish, dark bitter chocolate, thyme, roquefort cheese, cardamom and star anise. Probably not all in the same dish, mind you. (Though if anyone invents something that successfully incorporates all these flavours, please let Sas know!)

Great you have included Nona’s Wedding Cake recipe on the blog. I have had many people comment on how delicious the cake tasted. I can let them know the recipe is available.
Looking good Em! although you are making my cooking skills seem very very inferior …
