Min Lokal was a favourite breakfast haunt of mine a few years back. More recently, I’ve overlooked it as the range of breakfast options nearby has increased exponentially.
I thought it was time for a revisit and Mr M and I popped in for a mid-week breakfast on my birthday. It was pretty darn quiet at 7.30am on a Wednesday, much more relaxing than previous weekend visits.
I really like that Min Lokal’s location is so unobtrusive – just a little terrace in a side street.
Min Lokal’s breakfast options cover baked eggs (taleggio $15, ricotta $16 or adafina $14), standard eggs on toast $9 (plus extra for sides) and the more interesting morilla sausage scrambled eggs ($16) or smoked salmon tian ($15). There are also a range of sweet options (cinnamon maple brioche with cointreau anyone?) fruit toast ($7), bircher ($9) and fresh fruit ($10). This was all a welcome change from my previous visits, where baked eggs reigned supreme (and yes, that’s an Iron Chef reference).
First thing on a weekday and eggs seemed too much for me, so I opted for a nice, refreshing bircher:
This was a picture of health – nice yoghurt, fresh fruit and some crunch from the almonds and pumpkin seeds. While it was more muesli-like than bircher, I was still thoroughly satisfied.
Mr M opted for the adafina baked eggs with pumpkin, green beans, harissa, olives and sumac:
Mr M liked his breakfast, but like Tom Colicchio in Top Chef commented that it seemed a little ‘one note’. As in, it was good, but tasted the same after a while.
After getting an Iron Chef reference and a Top Chef reference into this post I think I’ll call it a day (no there will not be a Masterchef or MKR reference). Coffee was lovely (Supreme), service was relaxed and friendly. I was happy with our breakfast and will pop by again.
